I managed to not set the oven on fire this weekend, but I did get day drunk on sherbet punch at a bridal shower. I gave the bride, a vegetarian, Tender for her veg-friendly cookbook collection.
For Sunday breakfast, I made lemon-ricotta pancakes with bacon and sliced strawberries. I know nothing about coffee except that I prefer the expensive kinds. Lane usually brings home our weekly supply from the restaurant (which is supplied by Four Barrel), but he forgot this week, so I picked up a bag of Blue Bottle from Haight Street Market. I’ve used their Giant Steps roast before and it was very tasty, but more bitter than the nutty Four Barrel we usually drink. I bought the Retrofit roast yesterday and its kind of herbaceous and oaky, two things I would rather prefer in a white wine.
Lane grilled lamb chops and veggies and served them with spiced rice and a yogurt-lemon-mint sauce for dinner.
I went to the dentist this morning and I need four fillings (one a possible root canal), I have reversible gum disease, and I’m finally getting a night guard. All of the decay in my mouth could have been prevented with regular flossing. I have never been a regular brusher or flosser — I hated it as a kid and just never forced myself into the habit as an adult. My parents used to use those pills that would dye the spots you missed brushing, but I didn’t give a crap that my teeth were bright magenta night after night. I have TMJ and my grinding problem has expanded into daytime grinding, which is noticeably wearing at my left front tooth. My smile has always bothered me a bit: my front teeth are coffee stained, my left front tooth has a jagged edge, my canine teeth are really pointy, etc. Now that I can actually afford it, I’m going to look into some cosmetic solutions, perhaps starting with teeth whitening and evening out my front teeth.
The dental assistant gave me six types of floss samples in my goody bag. I think she’s trying to make a point.
